This week we celebrated SEVEN YEARS of being together. What a milestone!
Lately, I’ve been so focused on BIG ideas and writing with clear purpose and value that I’ve strayed away from simply writing, sharing and opening up. Which is terrible because the parts of blogging I love most are that you can look back, just like you would in your hand written journal, follow the traces of your journey and read the story all over again. I also the visual element of including my photographs and the connections formed with like-minded humans all over the world (that really is the coolest part).
So, in an effort to write more fluidly and also to open up again, I thought I would share a big, fat, juicy update on here in the form of a ‘currently’ post. I wanted to break away from the travel guides and informational posts to share with you what’s been going on in my life lately. So here’s the scoop – I’m currently. . .
OUR RENOVATION!!! It’s so fun to finally write about what has consumed my time, energy + creativity for the past few months. During the crazy (and stressful) process of planning this remodel + redesign, the last thing I wanted to do after working on it was to write about it. It seemed like the renovation was consuming my life already and having to journal about it after I had just stopped thinking of it seemed like torture! I wanted to write about other things. But now that we’re in the home stretch, I feel so much better journaling about the process and sharing our journey! [Read more…]
In my years since college, I have gone through a major inner transformation — from feeling like I had to dress myself to feel confident, to learning to embrace + celebrate my body whether I’m naked or in one of my favorite bikinis! After college, as I started my business I did a lot of soul searching and began to find that I wasn’t focused on being just the ‘pretty’ girl that I wanted to be when I was young. As young girls, many of us are focused on our outer appearances to feel confident and beautiful. Now, I realized I wanted to be the successful entrepreneur, the inspiring friend, the smart woman, the risk taker — the vibrantly alive soul. With this realization, I found how little my body type, shape or size was tied into ANY of my goals. . . It wasn’t an overnight switch, but instead a conscious effort to understand that my worth wasn’t tied to the way my body looked and also, that women I found beautiful, sexy and inspiring didn’t all look one certain way. They were different sizes, skin colors, body types and ages.
One month ago, we celebrated Aaron’s birthday! (How does time pass so quickly?!) This is the seventh birthday of his that we’ve spent together + his first here in Hawaii (last year we were road tripping across the USA). To make this one as special as the ones preceding, we decided to go somewhere on the island that we hadn’t been before!
We packed up two backpacks, drove to the southern part of the island then trekked through the expanse of lava to a hidden beach. It was six miles round trip but it was so worth it! You know that saying ‘Go the extra mile. It’s never crowded.’ His birthday was a perfect example! We had the beach all to ourselves. Twenty coconut trees just steps from the water’s edge. It was wonderful + such a special way to celebrate Aaron’s last 365 days of adventure.
Something that I’ve never shared here on the blog is my journey with social media and this odd, often overwhelming online world.
The beautiful and the challenging. The connection and the struggles.
After an inspiring call with my mastermind ladies, I decided this was something I wanted to share with you. Because frankly, it plays a large role in the bigger picture of my life and has positively impacted me in so many ways.
Participating in an online community of creatives, networking in this digital age and sharing my portfolio in a single scroll and has changed my life in a HUGE way. Personally and professionally. It’s brought opportunities into my career, my travels and my friendships that I never would have dreamed of.
WEEK ONE: Straight up confused. . .

WEEK THREE: I’ve finally got this! But oh shit, we have friends in town!
WEEK FOUR: Alright, back to it. Found my groove!

With the launch of our brand, Dérive Collective, I couldn’t help but think about our journey; the windy path that has brought us right here; the memories and the stories I’ve never told you. There has been highs + lows, unexpected twists and surprising outcomes. Yet, looking back, taking that leap of faith and deciding to work together, devoting ourselves to pursuing this intentional, off-the-beaten-path life has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
