It’s been two and a half weeks since we arrived home from Maine and a week since Halloween 2017 (forever deemed Hula-ween in our household). I’m still smiling when I look at the photos of us in our costumes! Sadly, last year we didn’t celebrate Halloween so naturally my gears were turning for creative couple costumes this year. I wanted to do something fun, tropical and original! After lots of brainstorming and Pinterest searching, we came across the idea of HULA LAMPS!
As we prepared for Halloween, mixing up these amazing activated charcoal cocktails and gluing together the lamp portions of our costumes *who the hell knew what we were doing*, this quote came to mind:
“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more *dance* to it.” –Osho
Full disclosure: Halloween isn’t my favorite holiday of all time. Honestly, holidays in general aren’t what I *dream* all year about or what fuel my excitement in life. Instead, it’s the people we connect with, the imagination the holidays stir up inside of us and the memories we make around the holidays that make me smile. I love any opportunity to let imagination + creativity run wild. It’s fun shaking things up, trying something new + laughing about it along the way!
Since our Hawaiian hale is freshly renovated (YAY! FINALLY! – going to share about the whole experience in upcoming posts) we decided to run with the hula lamp idea to compliment our new living room ;) Everyone we crossed paths with that night was cracking up and loved the costumes!
Besides our hula-ween festivities, since we’ve returned from our work sabbatical and time spent in Maine, we’ve spent most of our time wrapping up our home renovation. The final details seem to take the longest time, don’t they? Aaron + I have also been working on some new Dérive Collective offerings that we’re really excited about sharing. It’s been a lot of focused energy on our goals, reestablishing our routine in the newly remodeled house and falling back in love with this island we call home. We’re happy to be back!
Now that we’re back in home sweet Hawaii, I’m filled to the brim with ideas to share here on the blog as well as on social! From travel to wellness to entrepreneurial topics, it’s going to be fun to share what’s on my heart with you here soon.
Until next time, aloha nui loa + a hui hou!
