This year has been extremely transitional for me!
New Career Title. New Clients. New (official) Business. New Responsibilities. New Work Flow.
I have traveled, learned + experienced A LOT of new things + places! Now that I am into a beautiful (but always somewhat chaotic) groove–I knew it was time to update my space to reflect what inspires me now & to have a space to call my own, in my own style!
To give you an idea what I was working with before (or more like what I was avoiding by working downstairs) . . . here it was–
Yikes! That’s all I can say.
It was a cluttered, outdated mess. Its only saving grace was the amazing wood-stamped print by Light & Ink.
Since I had never claimed the space as mine or felt pride in this little nook, it quickly became a ‘drop all’ hub. I wanted to strip myself of the clutter & have a legit office space to take pride in. . .
So, here it is. . .
I am SO excited with how it came out! Here’s how the process came along. . .
The whole office makeover idea started when I found the most gorgeous desk on Instagram from Walker Edison Furniture! I knew it would be the best solution to bring in enough white, airy-ness without painting the walls white (I also loved this one & this one)! Once the desk & this darling little café chair arrived, they were the perfect foundation to build my space!
Next, I created a ‘mood board’ if you will. I knew that I wanted to play off of the black & white images of my grandfather–documenting the time in his life when he served as a firefighter. These images hold a special part of my heart so I started with them & branched out!
I love these prints from Shannon Kirsten & knew some of them would make the cut!
I then took some time to sift through our favorite images captured by Ryan Johnson–choosing which ones to frame along side my Constellation print by The AE State and my Original Cactus Painting by Kati Ramer. Then, I framed some other prints that hadn’t found a home yet & even found that cute hashtag to place on the wall!
My mind works best by laying all of the items to be hung on the floor & rearranging them until they feel ‘right’. Then I can grab the hammer & nails. I wanted to balance the amount of black, white, wood + color! I really enjoyed the creative flow of this project.
I framed most of the images (with frames from Ikea + Target) but some I hung on hangers or taped up with some Scotch Tape washi tape!
I wanted to keep my desk clear of clutter but still feel personalized to my life. I started with the print of Aaron & I that we printed with Instantly Framed (an amazing app that lets you frames images straight from your phone)! Added on my essential oil diffuser, my maid of honor gift from B, my WD Cloud external hard drive, lamp from Ikea + couldn’t forget a little plant baby!
Obviously, my always motivating ‘Get It Girl!’ mug had to make it on my desktop!
Like I said, I really enjoyed the creative process of re-imagining this space! It’s now a place I look forward to spend time working in rather than a run away from! I hope you enjoyed seeing the before + after!
This week I will be sharing a bit more about my office space in the upcoming three-part series The Curated Creative, where I will be sharing my advice on dressing as a creative professional without giving up any of your personality! I am really excited about this series & hope you check back into each of those posts!
