For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be the active girl; the one who does yoga everyday or wants to go on a run or to whom exercise comes easy. Truth is–that’s not me.
Despite that, throughout my life, there have been forms of exercise that I’ve viewed as beautiful pastimes–dancing, hiking, occasional yoga + bike riding. These are the types of things that are FUN to do–all the while tricking my body into full cardio!
Fun fact, I did not know how to ride a bike until the age of ten, when I learned how to ride by pedaling circles in my garage–my cute mother cheering me on with each stride. Yes, that’s a real story. Yes, I’m pathetic. *cue hysterical laughing*
Now, I am thankful for those hilarious moments of learning how to ride because it’s truly one of my favorite things to do. Our home is a short distance from scenic bike trails & an easy hop on the trolley to explore downtown.
As an entrepreneur working from home, bike rides are welcomed as a break in my day, to gain a new perspective + to take in a view besides my office space. I find that I often get my best ideas or let go of any stress I may have by getting my heart rate up & enjoying the outdoors. I love to ride with my forever adventure partner, Aaron. This is our time to connect, catch up, brainstorm ideas + enjoy the present moment. It’s one of our favorite pastimes & I’m so very grateful that we share the love for riding.
While spending time at my grandmother’s last summer, I found this image of her from her twenties. She was so beautiful, young & full of life. I loved hearing about her stories riding around her hometown, enjoying the good ‘ol days. Ever since, Aaron and I have been searching for the perfect modern version of a classic cruiser.
We loved the idea of vintage ones but they were either in poor shape or really pricey. Other bikes we sought out were a major investment too or they skimped on quality. So when I stumbled on Priority Bicycles, it was perfect melody of quality & style! Between their look, their simplicity (no chain technology) and their approachable price point, we knew these bikes were a great fit for us. I’ve always dreamt of a white cruiser & they have the perfect alabaster beauty–I’m in love! Aaron found that he loved the midnight blue–which is so his style. Complete with the brown tires + leather accents, we just love the vibe.
Of all the trails we ride on & places we explore–my favorite is when we hop on the train, bikes in tow, + have a morning at the market. We load up Aaron’s vintage gunpowder box on his bike rack & I carry my basket backpack filling it with produce. There is so much to take in–the vendors, the customers, the street performers. It’s wonderful people watching & a beautiful way to spend a Saturday morning. Typically after the market we ride around in the neighborhoods + grab a coffee before heading back home.
With our possible move in the next couple of months, there won’t be much that we take with us although I bet our bikes will be some of the things that make the cut. There is just something so special about riding side by side, feeling the breeze, pausing for the moment. We are hoping to intentionally choose our health this year–wanting to walk, bike ride & swim (and have mid-workday dance parties) as much as possible.
So, are you that fit girl that I strive to be? If so, share your secret with me!
What’s your favorite pastime or way to trick yourself into working out?
Mid-day dance parties?
Let’s hear it!
