Since I have started integrating essential oils into my home routine (beyond my beauty and health routines) I have been able to cut my monthly grocery bill down quite a bit which while ridding our home of household products that score a ‘nine’ or above on the Think Dirty app.

Long gone are the days of dryer sheets & jugs of fabric softener! Nasty, chemical-filled dryer sheets have been replaced by wool dryer balls with a few drops of essential oils.

Our old fabric softener has been replaced with this recipe:

Upcycle an old glass jar & fill with vinegar
+ 10 drops lavender
+ 5 drops of cedarwood or purification or stress away.

It’s beneficial because it’s an anti-bacterial, leaves your clothes with a fresh scent + feeling soft!

You’re thinking ‘but essential oils can be expensive’ – to that I will argue, ‘but less expensive in the scheme of things.’

Let’s break it down–

A 15ml bottle of Lavender from Young Living is $23.50
A 15ml bottle of Cedarwood from YL is $11.25
A 15ml bottle of Purification from YL is $18.75
A 15ml bottle of Stress Away from YL is $35.25
(all of these prices are wholesale pricing – if you’re interested in wholesale pricing, let’s chat)
I buy a huge (& I mean huge, you know what I’m talking’ bout) thing of vinegar for about $2.00 every two-three months.

To give you an idea there is about 250 drops in each 15ml bottle. Think about how long that will last!

So to include 10 drops of lavender in this recipe it’s about $0.94 + 5 drops of cedarwood it’s about $0.22.

With the cost of vinegar + $1.16 in oils = under $2.00.

(& I can do three to four loads of laundry with that amount depending on the size)

If you use the lavender oil for laundry only using this recipe, your 15ml bottle would last you 25 recipes. Crazy!

Also, I have had my wool dryer balls for over a year & still haven’t had to replace them. They still work great!

I happily went from spending $8.00 on Meyer’s or other ‘natural’ fabric softeners each month to shifting that money towards oils and reducing my grocery bill (& all four of the oils I listed have countless other uses)!
With my old ways, it was averaging about $1.00 a load for fabric softener + dryer sheets.

And now, it’s about $0.50-$0.60 a load for this recipe.

For about half the price per load, I am one happy lady! Even if it were the exact same price I would much rather have something that’s cleaner, safer, free of chemicals + easy to make!

Feel free to shoot me any questions about this recipe, how I integrate oils into my home routine, beauty routine or health routine – here!
