WE MADE IT TO MAINE!
After completing alllmost 100% of our renovation, experiencing an unexpected overnight layover in Detroit and a long car ride home – WE MADE IT! And what did we do the first day we were in Maine? . . . We made our way out to an island!
I think this officially means we’re island people!
Aaron’s sister-in-law has been telling us of this amazing island, where time has stood still, for years. In all my years traveling back and forth to Maine (and even our summer living here last year) we had’t made it out, until now. And now that I’ve seen it, I can say that it’s a little slice of paradise in Maine.
The island is called Monhegan Island and it’s her favorite place in the world. About 12 miles off the mainland, it boasts some insanely beautiful rocky coastline views, a beautiful main street with artists everywhere, puffin birds in the summer and awesome hiking around the entire isle.
We took a ferry out of the midcoast area, Port Clyde to be exact, and shivered our way out through foggy seas. By the time we got to the island, a lot of the fog had burned off and the sun was starting to peek out! There to greet us were sailboats at moorings, fishermen on the pier and beautiful homes on the cliffside. It was gorgeous; out of a story book. What a perfect first day in Maine! [Read more…]
